Mema ("we," "our," or "the app") is a local-first photo gallery application that prioritizes your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information and what data practices we follow.

2. Data We Access

To provide core functionality, Mema requires access to:

• Photo Library: Read access to your device's photo library to display and organize your photos
• Local Storage: Storage space on your device to save metadata, search indexes, and app settings

Important: This access is used exclusively for local processing on your device. We never upload your photos or metadata to our servers.

3. Data We Collect

3.1 Current Version (Local-Only, In-App)

In the current version of the Mema app, we collect zero data. All processing happens entirely on your device:

• Photo analysis and semantic indexing occur locally using on-device AI models
• Search queries are processed locally and never leave your device
• No analytics, crash reports, or telemetry are collected
• No user accounts or authentication are required

3.2 Future Features (Optional)

Future versions may offer optional cloud backup features. If you choose to use these features:

• Bring Your Own Storage (BYOS): You can connect your own S3-compatible storage. We never see your data—it goes directly from your device to your storage provider
• Managed Storage (Future): If we offer managed storage, all data will be encrypted on your device before upload (client-side encryption). We will have zero knowledge of your photo content

These features are opt-in and will require explicit consent. This privacy policy will be updated before any such features are released.

3.3 Website Contact (Optional)

Our website is a static site and does not use analytics or tracking. If you email us (for support or to join a waitlist), we will receive the information you include in your email (such as your email address and message) and use it only to respond or provide updates you requested.

4. How We Process Your Data

All data processing happens locally on your device:

• Semantic Indexing: AI models run on your device to analyze photos and create searchable indexes
• Vector Search: Search queries are processed using a local SQLite database with vector extensions
• Metadata Storage: Photo metadata, embeddings, and search indexes are stored in a local SQLite database on your device

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data with third parties. Period.

The Mema app collects no data, so there is nothing to share from the app. If you contact us by email, your email is handled by standard email infrastructure and is used only to respond. We do not sell your email address.

6. Third-Party Services

The current version of the Mema app uses no third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising services.

Our website is static and does not use third-party analytics or tracking scripts.

If you choose to use optional cloud backup features in the future, you will be connecting directly to your chosen storage provider (e.g., AWS S3, Backblaze, or your own S3-compatible service). Their privacy policies will apply to data stored with them.

7. Data Security

Your data security is ensured through:

• Local Storage: All data remains on your device, protected by your device's security features (encryption, biometric locks, etc.)
• No Network Transmission: Photos and metadata are never transmitted over the network in the current version
• Future Encryption: If cloud features are added, all data will be encrypted on your device before any network transmission

8. Your Rights

For the app, since we don't collect your data, you have complete control:

• Data Deletion: Uninstalling the app removes all local data. You can also use the "Wipe Derived Data" feature in settings to reset indexes without deleting your original photos
• Data Export: Your original photos remain in your device's photo library and can be exported using standard device features
• No Account Required: No registration, login, or account creation is needed

For the website waitlist, you can unsubscribe from emails at any time and you can request access or deletion of your signup by contacting privacy@memaphotos.com.

9. Children's Privacy

The Mema app does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13. Our website waitlist is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided an email address through the waitlist, please contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We will update this Privacy Policy if we introduce new features that change our data practices. We will notify users through the app and update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.

Major changes (such as introducing cloud features) will require explicit opt-in consent.
